The No movie title sequence features photography from photojournalists during Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile in the 1970s and 80s. The photographs have been split into fragments to represent the strong political divides among Chileans at that time; those in favor of keeping Pinochet in power (the yes vote) and those against (the no vote). The overlayed shapes and colors are drawn from symbols and elements found in various Chilean regional flags. In line with much of the sans-serif lettering on signs and propaganda of that time period, the titles use Futura. The sections of the photographs move and shift apart, sliding around like puzzle pieces. The flag elements pan in from the left, right, top or bottom, or zoom in from the background or zoom out from the foreground. The titles move in concert with the elements until locking into their positions, only to break apart again and transition to the next scene.
